2009 a year in review taken from TurboTango
1. What did you do in 2009 that you'd never done before?
graduated from college, applied for, got in, and started going to graduate school, lived in a house without living with my parents, went to bars.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I used to make resolutions, but they came from nice ideas rather than lessons learned. I would like to think that this year lessons were learned. '
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
my cousins’ girlfriends, although that might have been 2008, time starts to blend together.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
No funerals for me in 2009.
5. What countries did you visit?
I didn’t leave the country this year.
6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?
An acceptance letter from USC’s PhD communication program so that I can work with Henry Jenkins.
7. What date from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
February 21st -- when I met Michael.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Getting into graduate school
9. What was your biggest failure?
not having the sense enough to explore more options for my MA, which probably stems from my dislike of cold and my Los Angeles centered life, which has recently been changing as I went back to Bloomington for part of this winter break and staying at Mike’s place felt like being at home where as living in LA in the house I grew up in seems like student housing, just where I am while I am in school here, but not really where I belong anymore.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I am glad to say 2009 was a fairly healthy year for me.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Plane tickets and a parking pass for UCLA.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Mike’s, my sister for being awesome, that guy who let me couch surf when I was looking at UT Austin.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
lets not dwell.
14. Where did most of your money go?
plane tickets, Graduate School (granted this money is student loan money).
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Mike, Argentine Tango, WCS, graduate school, Henry Jenkins.
16. What songs will always remind you of 2009?
"If It Kills Me" Jason Mraz
"Boom Boom Pow" and "I've Got a Feeling" by Black Eyed Peas"
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. Happier or sadder? Happier.
ii. Thinner or fatter? I am not sure. I gained weight at IU but am not sure if I lost any of it, so I would wager about the same.
Richer or poorer? That is relative. My savings account is higher than it was last year, but I am also taking out loans in my name and in debt rather than my student loan money be in my parents’ names.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
reading, dancing.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
hating my living situation, being stressed out about life, being far away from my sweetie
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
I spent X-Mas with Mike and his family, chilling out, exchanging presents, playing games and eating food. We went to church. I cried. It reminded me of my grandfather and my late-grandmother.
21. How will you be spending New Years?
I will be having a few friends over and attempting to get some stable social life in Los Angeles.
Bloomington with Mike would have been a great adventure, but school starts Monday, we have a family tradition and I am a big fan of tradition and being in Bloomington doesn’t solve my problem of not yet having a solid friend set in Los Angeles.
22. Did you fall in love in 2009?
Why yes, I did. That was something on my list of things not to do in 2009, however in the great tradition of How I Met Your Mother, once you don’t want a relationship you wind up with a wonderful one not too shortly after.
23. What were your favorite TV programs?
Glee, Fringe, Dollhouse, Leverage, Defying Gravity, Gossip Girl, Castle, White Collar.
Those are just the favorites, not the ones that I watched regularly or for the first time in 2009. That is a much longer list.
24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Nope. everything that happened in my past has led to my present and I am very happy with my current situation, so although there are things that happened between this time last year and now, without them I might not have what I have.

Little Brother by Cory Doctorow

I went to a series of bars and turned 21.
31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
If I had gotten into USC, or if Mike had gotten into USC, or if we both got into USC, and we were living in the same place.

I try to do that anyways.
21. Do you expect 10 to be a good year for you?
I sure hope so.
22. How much did you change from this time last year till now?
I went through a fairly large personality transformation. I mellowed out a whole lot and learned some valuable life lessons.

I am too young to be thinking about that.
24. Will you still be friends with the same people you are friends with now?
Mostly. I like my friends.

Probably not. I moved back home this year and I think my lifestyle is locked in until at least the end of my MA program.

Probably not.
27. What will you make sure doesn't happen in 10 that happened in 09?
Yes, this goes in the same vein as lessons learned and major personality changes.
